Mr. F. R. Cerqueira was graduated in Computer Science by Federal
University of Viçosa (UFV), Brazil, in 1996. He obtained his Master
Degree also in Computer Science by State University of Campinas, in
1999, accomplishing the first dissertation on DNA fragment assembly
in Brazil. This work was presented in Recomb Satellite Meeting on
DNA Sequence Assembly at University of Southern California, EUA. In
2006, he completed a postgraduate course in bioinformatics by
University of Lisbon. Cerqueira obtained his PhD (European Doctorate
modality) in Bioinformatics by University for Health Sciences,
Medical Informatics and Technology, Hall in Tyrol, Austria, in 2010.
From July to August of 2008, he integrated the Systems Biology Group
of Institut Pasteur (Paris) as scientific visitor for developing
relevant studies in proteomics. Dr. Cerqueira is involved in
bioinformatics projects since 1997, working formerly with advanced
algorithms on DNA sequence assembly and DNA physical mapping as well
as clustering techniques to microarray data analysis. Since 2006, he
devotes his research to sophisticated data mining and statistical
methods applied to mass spectrometry data analysis for peptide /
protein identification, with special emphasis in phosphoproteins,
having publications in Journal of Proteome Research, Journal of
Biomedical Informatics, and Journal of Proteomics & Bioinformatics.
In addition, he is reviewer of Bioinformatics Journal since 2008.
Currently, Dr. Cerqueira is assistant professor at UFV, composing
the research committee of the Department of Informatics, and taking
part in NUBIO (Bioinformatics group) and NUBIOMOL (Molecular biology
group) in research projects involving data mining on genomics,
proteomics, and metabolomics.
